How to secure a Linux VPS in India
Updated 27 August 2026
Most VPS hacks start with password SSH, outdated packages, or an open panel. Use this checklist on Ubuntu and AlmaLinux whether the server is in Mumbai, Singapore, or Frankfurt.
1. SSH
Disable password login, use SSH keys, change the default port only after keys work, and restrict by firewall.
2. Firewall
Allow 22/443/80 (and 2083/2087 for cPanel) from your IPs where possible. Drop everything else.
3. Updates and backups
Enable unattended security updates. Keep a daily off-site backup you have tested restoring.
RootManage can run this as a managed service. See Linux management and INR plans.
